A successful Openjournals User Day

On Thursday, June 8, the first Openjournals User Day was held. Representatives from editorial boards and university publishing houses visited the Spinhuis in Amsterdam. The morning was spent explaining the OJS software, which editors use to edit and publish their journals on Openjournals. The Openjournals team was able to address frequently asked questions and, in addition, editors were able to learn from each other’s experiences.

The afternoon included discussions on a variety of issues involved in publishing a journal, such as increasing the visibility of a journal to attract new authors, formatting articles, creating themed issues, or finding funding to support a journal. Additional services that Openjournals could provide and additional needs that journals have were also discussed, such as in enriched publishing and submission to indexing services. Finally, ways in which journals could collaborate were also explored.

It was a fun and very informative day, also because of the diversity of journals, new and mature journals from all kinds of scientific disciplines. From now on we will organize a User Day every year and will organize online meetings around a specific topic.
